My expert guest today is Jessica Pettitt and I love that her website says she isn’t your typical diversity speaker.  I know Jess and she isn’t your typical anything, which is one of the many reasons I love her. This is her second appearance on my podcast.  She is super bright, super funny, and really strives to make sure everyone realizes they are Good Enough Now. One of my favorite analogies she uses is how to imagine ourselves as a draft document.  We all need editing.

Our guest today is Tim Tobin, Vice President of Franchisee Onboarding and Learning at Choice Hotels International.  He’s also the Dean of Choice University. He will talk to us about how learning processes have changed over time.

Tim and Choice Hotels are well aware of the unique differential between learners. So, they have built a comprehensive approach in Choice University.  The approach is to meet each learner where they are. He found the biggest challenges are time and where to start. Their system incorporates those challenges and the solution is learning maps.  This gives people the opportunity to be given the first step to take and allows them to study what they don’t’ know and not have to spend the time with what they already know.

Tim has learned about humility and that asking questions is a sign of wisdom, not weakness.  A great lesson for everyone.

In 2004 Dominic and Claire Taddei set-up Clear Mortgage Solutions (CMS) creating what is, today, one of Scotland’s leading mortgage and protection brokers. In 2016 they sought an equally motivated and ambitious partner to match their rapid growth and made the strategic decision to enter into a joint venture with Mortgage Advice Bureau (MAB).

By building on their attentiveness towards the development of people, they are able to support clients through one of the most significant purchases in their lifetime.

There are a few specific areas of focus that are lived throughout this company every day.  They make growth inevitable. Firstly, all advisers go through a 13-week training program, something unique in this industry. Secondly, we position culture and staff development at the forefront of our growth plans. Thirdly, our social and charity committee is focused on regular employee engagement - where we participate in sport, dinners and charity events. Lastly, we put a big focus on transparent internal communications to ensure all staff are engaged.

You’ll discover the values of MAB:

  • No stone unturned
  • Never give up
  • Embrace the challenge of change
  • Striving for perfection in everything we do
  • Enjoy the journey

Scott Moorehead, the CEO of TCC Verizon, hired Ryan McCarty to help create a Culture of Good.  What the duo began as a powerful movement has grown into a business teaching other companies that inspired employees to ignite positive change in the world and impact your bottom line positively.

Imagine how engaged employees would be if they were given the permission to care about not just their job, but also their fellow employees, customers and the cause they are most passionate about in life? What would it be like if employees got the chance to make positive changes in the world around them on a daily basis while they did their job? Or, to put that another way, what would happen if people were given the chance to bring their souls to work every day?

Ryan will share how that can happen and what results you can expect.
